Too Much Snow!

Still feeling the Stella Artois from last night (thanks in no small part to the wonderful Brazilians I met: Gustavo, Marcio, and Raphael), I managed to sleep through my two alarms before Gustavo woke me up at the bright hour of 6:50. Motivated by the thought of finally getting a snowboard on my feet, I shook of the thought of returning to sleep by telling myself that there will be plenty of time to for that when I´m dead.

The bus trip to Valle Nevado made for a rude awakening. Two hours up winding narrow roads meant for one car, but traveled in both directions, is a hell of a way to cure a hangover. It was what I imagine a paved version of Bolivia´s Via de Muerte would look like. But sure enough, we made it alive to the top to be greeted by near whiteout conditions.

Only two lifts were open because the storm was so bad, so we decided to forego the expensive lift tickets and do a bit of old fashion hiking. Sounded like a good idea at the time... We made one run and immediately retreated to the Cantina for a rest by the fire. There we stayed until the bus driver was ready to go. Finally, right when we were leaving, the weather became beautiful. Oh, well, I will have to wait until tomorrow for some fresh powder.

Wow, it looks like the top of the mountain was gorgeous! I hope today's weather is better for some snowboarding :)
