A New Kind of Football Game

I´ll never see a soccer game the same way again. The football was very good, but that is not the reason. The fans were absolutely wild. Universita Catolica played the ever feared Colo Colo, the people`s team. Colo Colo was in first place coming into the game, but perhaps no more. They got a red card in the first five minutes giving Catolica a huge advantage.

The Colo Colo fans were by far the craziest. Their cheers were deafening from accross the stadium, and smoke bombs and flags were all over the place. Just to be on the safe side, I sat on the mas tranquillo side of Universita Catolica. This gave a good view of the spectacle.

A Paul Bunyan sized jersey was unfurled, leaving me wondering who in the hell volunteered to make that. Catolica won 1-0 and the Colo Colo fans were finally silenced. Riot police in full gear shepparded them out to keep the peace. A wonderful first day in Chile!

That game looks like it was a lot of fun! Did you guys get to pregame before hand at all - or did most people sneak stuff in, like at VT games?

Pretty cool that you were able to go to stuff like this - just finding out by word-of-mouth. We need to do some serious traveling together sometime. I like to plan things too much and miss out on this kind of stuff.

Awesome pics.
